The most striking idea in the first chapter of The Stranger
is how the main character does not show any emotion when it comes to the death
of his mother. “Maman died today. Or yesterday maybe, I don’t know. I got a
telegram from the home: “Mother deceased. Funeral tomorrow. Faithfully yours””.
This is the most important point of the story I feel because it shows that the
main character is a very unemotional and disconnected main character and right
from the begging it is understood that the main character will be an outcast emotionally
and sets the tone for the rest of the book.
